The York Revolution defeated the Road Warriors 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Monday night in front of 3,853 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Scott Grimes chopped an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Liu Rodriguez giving York the victory to remain undefeated in the second half. The Revolution are now on a six-game winning streak overall with the series continuing Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in York.
The Road Warriors opened up the game by manufacturing a first inning run. CF Adrian Ortiz led off with an infield single and was brought home when 2B Amadeo Zazueta singled to right field giving them an early 1-0 lead.
York tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the first inning when Grimes crossed the plate on a wild pitch after drawing a leadoff walk, stealing second, and advancing to third on a ground ball.
The Revolution broke the tie in the fourth with 1B Chris Nowak smacking a sacrifice fly to the right field corner to bring in DH Jose Herrera giving them a 2-1 advantage.
York continued to add to their lead the following inning when 2B Ramon Castro blasted a two run homer to left-center scoring Grimes to increase their lead to 4-1.
The Road Warriors countered in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4. C Josh Johnson slapped a two-run single to left and was followed by 1B Luis Nieblas who brought in the tying run by way of a single.
Nowak led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a single to left and was replaced at first by Rodriguez on a fielder's choice. With one out, C Octavio Martinez hit a single right past Road Warriors 3B Melvin Dorta to advance Rodriguez over to third. That set the stage for Grimes to drive him in and give York their fourth walk off win of the year.
York reliever Ricardo Gomez earned the win to improve to (2-0) after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Starter Corey Thurman pitched into the sixth inning giving up three earned runs while striking out five.
Notes: The Revolution have a club record three winning streaks of five or more in a season. The Revs are now 22-9 since June 14 and are a season-high 13 games over .500. York reliever Ronnie Morales leads the Atlantic League with 41 appearances, pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
