Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 18, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (1-3, 33-34) suffered their third straight defeat against the Camden Riversharks (3-1, 26-41) by a score of 7-4 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday night.

Paul Oseguera (6-3) suffered the loss as the southpaw allowed five runs in five innings of work. Chris Rivera followed Oseguera and gave up two runs in two innings of relief. Wardell Starling made his Bluefish debut and tossed two scoreless frames.

Carlos Vasquez (5-3) picked up the win for Camden as the southpaw allowed four runs in six frames on Monday. Mike Koplove, Jay Marshall, and Brian Stokes combined for three shutout innings. Stokes earned his eighth save of the year.

Bridgeport started the scoring in the first by pushing two runners across. Perez served a single to right. Berroa reached on a bunt single to the mound. The throw to first, from Vasquez, sailed down the first base line and allowed Perez to move to third. Luis Lopez lined a single to center to give the Bluefish a 1-0 lead. After an out had been recorded, Steve Moss smacked a single to leftcenter to bring Berroa home.

Camden responded by scoring three times in the second. Pedro Feliz led off with a single. Alvin Colina followed with a two-run shot to left to tie the contest at two. Noah Hall gave the Riversharks the lead by hitting a solo blast to left.

The home team reclaimed the lead in the fourth by scoring twice. After Brock Peterson reached base on a walk, Danny Putnam socked a double to center to put runners at second and third. Michael Moras was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Angel Chavez lined a two-run double down the rightfield line to give Bridgeport a 4-3 lead.

Even though Bridgeport continued to attack, so did Camden. The Riversharks pushed two more runners home in the fifth, courtesy of a two run jolt to left by Pedro Feliz. Camden added two insurance runs in the seventh to close the scoring.

There were two bright spots for Bridgeport: Luis Lopez is getting closer to history. He is now 15 hits shy of 2,000 for his minor league career after his first inning single. Lopez' teammate, Wes Bankston, had two doubles on the night. He now has 22 on the year.

The Bluefish continue a series, at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, on Tuesday Night with the Camden Riversharks. First pitch is set for 7-:05. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Tuesday is Kid's Eat Free presented by Big Y World Class Market.
