Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 18, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-2 in a rain-shortened affair on Monday night in the opener of a three-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Blue Crabs put the first two runs on the board, courtesy of Kody Kirkland's RBI double to left in the first and Ben Harrison's run-scoring two-bagger in the fourth. Long Island fought back to take a 3-2 lead in the fifth against Blue Crabs' starter Nick Green. A two-run error off the bat of Javier Colina and a RBI single by John Rodriguez did the damage.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when the skies opened at Bethpage Ballpark. Joselo Diaz (4-4) picked up the win, tossing four and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing just one run while striking out four. Green (5-4) suffered the loss, yielding three runs (none earned) on seven hits in five innings.
Rodriguez and Kennard Jones each had a pair of hits to lead the Ducks offensively.
