Griffins Grab 2-1 Overtime Win

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Grand Rapids Griffins (2-3-1) continued their strong play on the road with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Rochester Americans (0-5-1) in the Blue Cross Arena.
After killing off a penalty for the final 3:30 of regulation, Travis Richards slid the puck between former Michigan State Spartan goaltender, Ryan Miller's legs at the 3:08 mark of overtime. Dave Van Drunen took a drop pass inside the Americans' blue line from Stacy Roest and slid the puck to Richards in the slot. Roest and Van Drunen earned assists on the game-winning goal.
After a scoreless first period, the Americans struck first when Norm Milley tallied a power play goal at 10:27 of the second period. Milley banged a bouncing rebound by Grand Rapids goaltender Marc Lamothe. Jason Botterill and Ales Kotalik received assists on the play.
The Griffins got on the board with their own power play tally. Michel Picard buried a rebound chance with just under 13 seconds remaining in the second period. Miller stopped Derek King's slapshot, but the rebound slid to Picard, positioned in the faceoff circle to Miller's left. Picard quickly shot the puck into the open side of the net knotting the score at 1-1. King and Patrick Boileau got assists on the goal.
Lamothe stopped 37 of 38 shots for his first win as a Griffin, while Miller turned aside 23 of 25 shots in defeat.
The Griffins' road trip continues tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. when they will play the Syracuse Crunch for the first time ever.
