Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto - A 24-hour nationwide general public ticket sale for Grey Cup 2007 tickets began yesterday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern. The Grey Cup 2007 Committee is overwhelmed to announce that over 20,000 tickets have already been sold to the first Grey Cup to be held in Toronto in 15 years.
Due to the great demand, Grey Cup organizers have decided to extend the 24-hour sale until midnight tonight. Football fans have another eight hours to purchase their Grey Cup 2007 tickets through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-800-265-5566. With the exception of exclusive availability for Argo season ticket holders, the remaining tickets will once again go back in the vault at midnight and will not be available for purchase to the general public until 2007.
Brad Watters, General Manager, Grey Cup 2007, commented, "We are off to an amazing start. The results of this one day sale exceeded our expectations and we now know that the public is as excited as we are to bring the Grey Cup and the Vanier Cup back to the city of Toronto. We have no doubt that Grey Cup 2007 will truly be, like our theme, Over The Top In Toronto."
At a media conference yesterday at Milestone's Grill and Bar in downtown Toronto, the 2007 Grey Cup Committee and Mayor David Miller announced details of the 2007 Grey Cup Festival. Rick Brace, President, CTV Inc., was named Chairman, Grey Cup 2007. Brace announced the theme of Grey Cup 2007 as Over The Top In Toronto and unveiled the festival logo. Over The Top In Toronto describes the overall theme and objectives of the Grey Cup 2007 Committee. With a commitment to providing an entertainment experience that surpasses all expectations, the goal for 2007 is to provide a festival week for all Canadians to participate in that is second to none and âover the top'.
The 2007 Grey Cup in Toronto will begin with a four day festival encompassing over 50 events at great venues including the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the CN Tower. Complete with street closures, entertainment and activities such as the Bremner Streetfest and the Bay Street Gridiron Tournament, there will be something for everyone. Slated to be one of the most memorable Grey Cup festivals of all the time, the line-up of performers will be announced at a major launch event early in 2007.
The 95th Grey Cup will be played on Sunday November 25, 2007 at Rogers Centre. The weekend will be "A Celebration of Football" and include games at the amateur, high school and university level as well. Additionally, the prestigious Vanier Cup will be held on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Rogers Centre.
With ticket prices ranging from as low as $79 to a best seat price of $529, Grey Cup '07 is the most affordable marquee sporting event. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-800-265-5566.
The Grey Cup is Canada's largest professional sporting event. An annual tradition celebrated by Canadians from coast-to-coast since 1909, this unique Canadian championship game has attracted an average television audience of more than 4.1 million viewers over the past four years. In addition to the thousands filling Rogers Centre, the Grey Cup will be watched by millions of fans across Canada on CBC and RDS and in more than 160 countries around the globe. Toronto last hosted the Grey Cup in 1992 when Calgary defeated Winnipeg 24-10.
