April 11, 2017 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release
The Greenville Drive scored four runs on a pair of two-run homers in the first inning and made the lead stand up in a 4-3 win over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night in Greenville.
Santiago Espinal led off the bottom of the first with a walk, and Tyler Hill followed with his second home run in two games. With two outs, Tucker Tubbs reached first on a throwing error by third baseman Emmanuel Rivera, and Roldani Baldwin homered to give the Drive a 4-0 lead.
The Legends broke through with an unearned run in the eighth. Angelo Castellano and Khalil Lee singled with two outs, and Castellano came around to score when shortstop Carlos Tovar threw wide to second after fielding a ground ball hit by Gabriel Cancel.
In the top of the ninth, Chris DeVito led off with a walk and moved to third on a double by Rivera. A single by Meibrys Viloria brought home a run and sent Rivera to third. But Manny Olloque grounded into a double play as Rivera scored, and Greenville reliever Stephen Nogosek struck out Amalani Fukofuka to end the game.
Greenville starter Shaun Anderson shut out the Legends on four hits through the first six innings and picked up the win. Nogosek earned his first save.
Legends starter Nolan Watson (0-1) worked the first five innings and took the loss. After the two homers in the first, he allowed only one more hit, a fifth-inning single by Espinal.
Each team has won one game in the series, which concludes Wednesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
The Legends home opener is Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against the West Virginia Power. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
