Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Thanks to a terrific outing on the mound from Shaun Anderson, the Greenville Drive defeated the Lexington Legends 4-3 on Tuesday night at Fluor Field to even the series at one game apiece.
After a strong first start on Opening Night, Anderson (1-0) was even better in his second turn, holding the Legends (2-4) scoreless over six innings. He allowed just four hits while striking out six and not issuing a walk.
The Drive (4-2) would give Anderson plenty of offensive support in the bottom of the first, striking for all four of their runs against Nolan Watson (0-1). After a leadoff walk, Tyler Hill popped a two-run homer over the Green Monster seats for the second consecutive night to put the Drive ahead 2-0. A two-out Lexington error prolonged the inning, and Roldani Baldwin followed with a two-run blast of his own.
Watson settled in from there and held the Drive scoreless in the rest of his outing, which lasted five innings.
The Legends battled back to score a run on a Drive error in the eighth, and they added two more runs in the ninth on an RBI single by Meibrys Viloria and a double play. Stephen Nogosek settled down after allowing the first three runners in the ninth to reach and recorded a strikeout to end the game, notching his first save.
Emmanuel Rivera went 4-4 at the plate to lead the Lexington offense.
The rubber game of the three-game series begins at 7:05 on Wednesday night, and it concludes Opening Week presented by TD Bank at Fluor Field. Left-hander Darwinzon Hernandez (1-0, 1.80) gets the ball for the Drive, and he'll be opposed by Legends right-hander Jace Vines (0-1, 10.80).
Prior to Wednesday's game at Fluor Field, the ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by Bob Richey, the new head men's basketball coach at Furman University. Tickets can be purchased at the Main Street Box Office, at (864) 240-4528 or by CLICKING HERE.
