Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: After a strong first period by both teams the Road Warriors let the game slip away and fell to Gwinnett 6-2.
The first period was full of action but no scoring chances resulted in goals. Greenville's Scott Stajcer and Gwinnett's Louis Domingue both made great saves to keep the game scoreless.
The second period started in the favor of the Road Warriors as they controlled the play in the early part of the frame. Greenville took a 1-0 lead at the 12:55 mark when Brandon Wong scored by bouncing the puck off Domingue and into the net. The next 7:05 would prove to be tumultuous for Greenville. It started when Alex Belzile tied the game with a power play goal less than three minutes after Wong's goal. It would take the Gladiators less than two minutes to score another power play goal, this one by Cody Carlson. Gwinnett took a 3-1 lead into the locker room after Evan Bloodoff notched the Gladiators' first even strength goal of the night with Pierro-Zabotel on the goal's lone assist.
The Road Warriors showed signs of life when Steven Delisle fired a wrist shot past Domingue's blocker to bring the game to a 3-2 score. Just over a minute later Rylan Galiardi snapped his seven-game pointless drought to give Gwinnett another two goal lead. Six and a half minutes later Christian Ouellet pushed the lead to 5-2. With just 45 seconds remaining in the game Doug Jones would score the final goal to give the Gladiators a 6-2 win. Stajcer stopped 29 of the Gladiators' shots en route to his only regulation loss on the year. Domingue stopped 32 of 34 shots and improved to 10-2-0 with the win.
The Road Warriors are back at the EquilifeMD Rink in BI-LO Center next Friday and Saturday for Cap' N' Crunch Weekend presented by WYFF and 92.5 WESC. The Road Warriors take on the Florida Everblades on Friday at 7 p.m. with a T.J. Reynolds Banner giveaway to the first 1,000 fans. Hockey Happy Hour begins on Friday at 5 p.m. with FREE FOOD, DISCOUNTED DRINKS AND ATTRACTIONS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY presented by Chief's Wings and Firewater and ABC Party Rentals. On Saturday, the Road Warriors host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7 p.m. with the first 1,500 fans receiving a T.J. Reynolds Bobblehead.
