Rome Emperors News Release
The Greensboro Grasshoppers (39-26) won this week's series over the Rome Braves (33-32) with an 8-5 victory on Friday night. Greensboro scored seven unanswered runs from the fifth to eighth innings to secure the comeback win at State Mutual Stadium.
The Braves jumped in front with a four-run first inning. Jesse Franklin V picked up two RBI with a hard-hit double that drove in Cody Milligan and Kevin Josephina. A throwing error later in the inning allowed Franklin and Michael Harris II to touch home plate, giving Rome a 4-0 advantage. Greensboro responded with a run in the top of the second, cutting their deficit to three runs. The R-Braves got that run back in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an Andrew Moritz RBI single that brought home Brett Langhorne.
Unfortunately, the Grasshoppers went on a 7-0 scoring run in the middle innings to claim the lead. After scoring twice against Alan Rangel in the fifth, Greensboro brought across four runs in the top of the seventh to control a 7-5 advantage. The Grasshoppers added an insurance run the following inning and held on late to record a three-run victory.
Langhorne recorded his second straight two-hit night, finishing 2-for-4 with one run. Franklin was 1-for-3 with one double, two runs batted in, and one run scored, while Josephina and Milligan each went 1-for-4 with one run. Moritz drove in one run in a 1-for-2 performance.
Alan Rangel pitched six innings, surrendering two earned runs on three hits and zero walks. Rangel tallied nine strikeouts on the day. Davis Schwab gave up three earned runs in 1/3 of an inning while Zach Daniels allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings. Justin Yeager entered and threw a scoreless ninth inning.
The final regular season matchup between Greensboro and Rome will be played Sunday at State Mutual Stadium. Gates will open at 1 p.m. EDT and first pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Floyd County.
The ticket offer for tomorrow's showdown is Family Fun Day. The Family Fun Day Pack, which fans can purchase for $50, includes four tickets, four hats, four hamburgers, four sodas, and four popcorns (over $100 value).
