Greensboro rallies in eighth, wins 4-3 The Greensboro Grasshoppers came from behind with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and went on to a 4-3 win over the Lexington Legends Thursday night in Greensboro.
The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With one out, Meibrys Viloria walked and moved to third on a double by Manny Olloque. Both runners scored on a single by Amalani Fukofuka.
Greensboro got one run back in the bottom of the third on a single by Luis Pintor and a triple by Corey Bird. The Legends restored their two-run margin in the sixth, when Angelo Castellano singled and scored on a double by Kort Peterson.
The 3-1 lead held up until the eighth. Eric Gutierrez drew a leadoff walk and Boo Vazquez followed with a two-run homer to tie the game. With two outs, Mason Davis homered, giving Greensboro the lead.
Reliever Kyle Keller allowed a one-out walk in the ninth, but recorded three strikeouts in the inning to end the game.
Marcus Crescentini (1-0), who entered the game at the start of the seventh inning, picked up the win. Keller earned his second save of the season. Legends reliever Julio Pinto (0-2), who entered at the start of the eighth inning, took the loss.
Lexington starter Gerson Garabito allowed five hits and one run in six innings. He struck out six batters and walked one, and lowered his earned run average for the season to 2.50.
The Legends won two out of three in the series. They will open a four-game series against the West Virginia Power in Charleston Friday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Box score
