Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - Edgar Cabral had two hits and two RBIs while Darick Hall homered as Lakewood topped Charleston 3-2 in a rain-shortened seven-inning game on Thursday at Riley Park.
The win completes a three-game sweep for the BlueClaws, who have now won five games in a row to get to 16-12 on the season. This matches their high-water mark of four games over .500. Charleston falls to 13-15 with the loss.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the sixth inning when Darick Hall broke a 2-2 tie with a solo home run. It was his second homer in as many days and his 11th professional long ball.
Lakewood starter Ranger Saurez came out for the seventh and got the first two outs, but Trevor Bettencourt came on with a runner at second. Bettencourt, making his second appearance since coming off the disabled list, got Leandro Molina to ground out to end the inning and preserve the lead.
Suarez (2-0) earned the win, allowing two runs, one earned, over 6.2 innings while striking out seven. The southpaw has struck out 26 hitters over 20.2 in his last three starts and the runs he gave up in the third inning of this game snapped a 24-inning scoreless stretch that began after he gave up two runs in the first inning of his season.
At that point, the rain, which began in the fourth inning, intensified, and the game was delayed for 30 minutes before being called.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the second inning on a two-run double by Edgar Cabral.
The RiverDogs tied the game off Ranger Suarez in the third. Angel Aguilar 's infield single scored one run and the second came home on a throwing error, which leveled the score at 2.
Cabral had two hits for the BlueClaws in the win and threw out his league-leading 13th potential base-stealer.
The BlueClaws will now head to Columbia and open a four-game series with the Mets affiliate on Friday night. RHP Adonis Medina (0-2) starts the series opener for the BlueClaws against Columbia LHP Joel Huertas (0-1).
