Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, Mitch Roman grounded a single through the left side of the infield to score two runs and give the Intimidators a 5-4 win over the Augusta GreenJackets in a rain-shortened, six-inning contest on Thursday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (14-12) completes a three-game sweep of Augusta, marking the Intimidators second series sweep of the season and first since April17-19 versus Asheville.
Roman finished the game 1-for-4 with two RBI, as pitcher Lane Hobbs (1-1) picked up the win after striking out the only batter he faced in relief of starter Yosmer Solorzano.
After the Intimidators fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Kannapolis answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. With two away Brandon Dulin started things by reaching on a third-strike wild pitch, followed by a Grant Massey single that set the stage for Antonio Rodriguez. Rodriguez recorded his third triple in two games scoring both base runners and giving Kannapolis a 2-1 lead. He finished 1-for-1 with two walks.
After adding one more in the fourth inning as Nate Nolan walked with the bases loaded to pick up his first RBI of the season, the Intimidators carried a 3-1 lead through five innings and battling the rain.
Augusta grabbed the lead in the away half of the sixth pushing across three runs, two unearned, on an error by Micker Adolfo in right field who lost his footing on the slick surface.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom half of the inning, two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out for Mitch Roman. After Roman's two-RBI single, the game was called due to inclement weather.
On the mound, Solorzano took no decision going 5 and 2/3 innings allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, while walking four and striking out three.
Kannapolis continues its seven-game homestand with the first of a four-game series against Asheville on Friday as RHP Alec Hansen (1-2, 3.33 ERA) takes the mound against the Tourists' RHP Antonio Santos (1-2, 1.80 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Friday is Military Appreciation Night featuring a postgame military jersey raffle with proceeds benefiting local veterans groups.
