At the Plate: Greensboro recorded 10-plus hits for the second consecutive game Sunday, this time picking up a 12-2 win... Ben Lasater led the way for the Hoppers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate which included a grand slam in the fourth inning and a solo home run in the sixth... The Hoppers also had multi-hit performances from Bryan Petersen (3-for-5), Ryan Anetsberger (2-for-4) and Mike Stanton (2-for-4).
Series Insight: Greensboro and Asheville are facing off in Game 4 of a four-game series at NewBridge Bank Park today... All-time, the Grasshoppers are 22-15 against Asheville, including an 12-7 record at NewBridge Bank Park... The Grasshoppers posted a 2-6 record against the Tourists last season and snapped a six-game losing streak to the Tourists with Friday's 7-2 victory... The teams last met in Asheville with the Tourists sweeping a four-game set on June 25-28, 2007... All-time, the Grasshoppers have out-scored the Tourists 206-170.
Lasater's Longballs: Ben Lasater went deep twice during Sunday's 12-2 win over Asheville... It marked the first time in his career that he has hit two home runs in the same game... Lasater went 3-for-4 at the plate and collected a single-game team-high and career-most five RBI... Lasater's fourth inning home run was a grand slam-the second grand slam of his career... The infielder last hit a grand slam on Aug. 17, 2007, while playing with Jamestown of the New York Penn League.
Player Notes: Right fielder Mike Stanton is currently on an eight-game hit streak and leads all South Atlantic League right-handed batters with his .417 batting average... Stanton's batting average ranks second-best overall in the league... Stanton also ranks second in on-base percentage (.463) and fourth in slugging percentage (.639)... Bryan Petersen ranks second in runs scored among SAL players with 10 runs scored.
Bad Bounces: The Grasshoppers committed 24 errors over the course of their first 10 games... The Hoppers have had just one errorless game this season when they lost to Hickory 4-1 in the series finale on April 10... After opening the season with at least one error in seven straight games, the Hoppers have now committed two errors in each of their last three games... Greensboro's 24 errors are the most in the South Atlantic League this season.
Up Creek Without a Paddle: Saturday's game saw 13 Greensboro base-runners get stranded... The 13 runners left on base is a season-most while the Tourists of Asheville left just five runners on base.
Rollercoaster Record: After failing to move above the .500 mark in each of their last two chances, the Greensboro Grasshoppers will take another crack at it today as they boast a 213-213 franchise record... The Hoppers entered the season with a 206-208 and have recorded season records of 67-71 (2005), 68-69 (2006), 71-69 (2007) and are 7-4 so far this year.
This Day in Hoppers History: Greensboro is a perfect 3-0 in April 14 games... At home, the Hoppers defeated Hickory 4-3 in a 13-inning affair in 2005, and handed Hagerstown an 8-2 loss in 2007... The Grasshoppers also defeated Hickory (6-0) on the road on April 14, 2006
Top Prospects: The Marlins' top pick in the 2007 draft (12th overall), Matt Dominguez, is the highest touted third-baseman on the Marlins' prospect list printed in Baseball America and enters his first full season of professional baseball after playing five games with the Gulf Coast Marlins and 10 games with Jamestown... In the same article, Dominguez was named the Marlins' best Minor League defensive infielder... Mike Stanton, the Marlins' second draftee in the 2007 draft, also split time between the Gulf Coast Marlins (8 games) and Jamestown (9 games) last season... Entering the season, Stanton ranks ninth on Baseball America's top 10 prospects for the Marlins and was tabbed the organization's best power hitter and best athlete in the minors.
Welcome Home: The Grasshoppers are 123-93 (.569) all-time at NewBridge Bank Park, including a single-season best 47 wins during the 2007 season.
