Greensboro Swarm News Release

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, fell to the Capital City Go-Go (Washington Wizards affiliate) in a heartbreaking 131-124 overtime loss in the first home contest of the 2022-23 regular season at the Novant Health Fieldhouse.

The Saturday matinee marked the third meeting between the Swarm (0-3) and the Go-Go (3-0) this year. Previously, the teams had split the series, with Greensboro winning the last contest 112-105 on the road on Dec. 11.

The Swarm were propelled by the trio of James Bouknight, Kai Jones and Bryce McGowens, who combined for 96 points. McGowens, a two-player, earned a season-high 37 points and led all scorers in the game. Bouknight and Jones, on assignment from the Hornets, made their G League season debuts. In the 2021-22 season, Bouknight appeared in 12 games for Greensboro and averaged over 20 points per game, while Jones appeared in 32 games and was a fixture in the lineup for the closing stretch of the season.

In a back-and-forth first half, the Go-Go possessed a four-point lead headed into the halftime break. Capital City's Vernon Carey Jr., a former member of the Swarm, dominated the stat sheet for the Go-Go with 35 points and 13 boards. Additionally, the Go-Go received an added boost from its bench in the form of Quenton Jackson, who poured in 18 points.

Following the break, the Swarm surged ahead in the game with an opening 9-0 run in the third quarter. In the closing seconds of fourth quarter the Swarm held a 123-121. However, the Go-Go forced a steal and were able to set up an offensive possession to either tie the game or take the lead. Capital City's Kris Dunn was fouled in the act of shooting with just under ten seconds remaining in the contest. Dunn would go on to make both free throws to tie the game at 123 and ultimately force overtime.

The Go-Go ended up sealing the game with a dunk from Dunn for a final score of 131-124.

The Swarm will head to Delaware to start off the new year against the Blue Coats (Philadelphia 76ers affiliate) on January 6 at 7 pm ET.
