Wisconsin Herd Secures First Win in the Regular Season

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Grand Rapids Gold 93-91. The Herd dominated the first quarter defensively keeping Grand Rapids to a season opponent low of points scored in the first quarter with 15 points. The Gold hammered back to come within three points but the Herd held them off to lead 47-41 at the end of the first half. The Herd stayed ahead until the end of the third quarter when the Gold grabbed a 70-69 lead. Wisconsin ended the third quarter up but the Gold countered to take the lead in the fourth quarter. The Herd went ahead again 91-87 and two free throws from Jordan Bone sealed the win.

The Herd was guided by three players with a double-double and five players in double-digits for points. Joe Wieskamp led with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Sandro Mamukelashvili added a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Jontay Porter with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Chasson Randle led the Gold with 20 points followed by Peyton Watson with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Joe Wieskamp opened the game with a slam dunk, assisted by Sandro Mamukelashvili. The Gold answered but Jontay Porter followed with another dunk to tie the game 4-4. The Herd scored the next eight points to go ahead 12-4. Elijah Hughes and Rob Edwards added four points to grow the Herd's lead. Jordan Bone and Rob Edwards combined for five points to push the Herd up 21-13. The Gold secured a basket, but the Herd closed out the quarter up 25-15.

The Herd stayed ahead by 10 points going up 33-23 at the nine-minute mark of the second quarter. The Gold connected on two consecutive shots, but Rob Edwards answered with a three-point play. The Gold clawed back with an 8-0 run to come within three points. Elijah Hughes hit a three-point shot to end the Gold's run. The two teams traded baskets, but the Herd stayed in front 47-41 at the end of the first half. Joe Wieskamp led the Herd with nine points in the first half.

Joe Wieskamp opened the third quarter with back-to-back shots. The Gold answered with consecutive shots, but the Herd built their lead back to 10. Grand Rapids returned with five unanswered points. Elijah Hughes added consecutive points to put the Herd up 66-56. The Gold rebounded to come within one point at the one-minute mark. Sandro Mamukelashvili hit a three to keep the Herd up. The Gold tied the game but a last-second three by Brandon Randolph put the Herd ahead 75-72 to end the third quarter.

The Gold opened the fourth quarter with nine unanswered points to take the lead 81-75. Sandro Mamukelashvili hit a step-back jump shot at the eight-minute mark. Elijah Hughes hit a three-point shot to tie the game 84-84. The Gold countered with a three-point shot but Brandon Randolph and Elijah Hughes combined to take the lead 89-87. Jordan Bone added a layup to put the Herd up 91-87 with minutes remaining. Grand Rapids hit a layup to come within two at the one-minute mark. Jordan Bone completed two free throws to secure the win for the Herd 93-91.

The Herd will return home on Wednesday, January 4th against the College Park Skyhawks with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
