Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Greensboro, NC - July 6, 2016)- The West Virginia Power were shutout 3-0 in the series finale against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Power offense was held to two hits for the second straight game as they suffered their third series sweep of the season.
Starters Gage Hinsz and LJ Brewster traded shutout innings until Greensboro broke through for three runs in the fourth, the only scoring in the game by either team. Justin Twine singled home John Silviano to make it 1-0 and Aaron Blanton capped the scoring with a two run home run to center, giving the 'Hoppers a 3-0 advantage.
Hinsz (1-4) became the fourth straight Power starting pitcher to throw a quality start, giving up just the three runs along with six hits across six innings.
Cesilio Pimentel and Jess Amedee combined for two scoreless innings of relief, while striking out three.
Brewster (4-2) held West Virginia to one hit and one walk over his five frames. Marcus Crescenti followed with two shutout innings to earn his first hold of the year and Jose Quijada worked the final two frames for his second save.
Logan Ratledge and Casey Hughston were the only two Power batters to pick up hits. The club brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth but could not get on the scoreboard.
West Virginia continues the road trip with a four game set with Lakewood. Mitch Keller starts for the Power opposite BlueClaw starter Jose Taveras. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at First Energy Park.
