Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats have to feel a little uneasy in the late innings of a one-run game against the Augusta GreenJackets. The GreenJackets scored the final two runs of Friday night's game - a 2-1 win over the GreenJackets - for their ninth one-run win of the year and their fifth against Savannah in front of 3,627 at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

For the second straight night, Savannah scored early and allowed the GreenJackets to score the final runs of the game unanswered. TJ Rivera's first-inning sacrifice fly put the Gnats up 1-0 before Kyle Crick escaped the inning on back-to-back strikeouts. In a start full of anomalies for Crick, the righty allowed hits to the first two hitters in all four innings he worked, for a total of eight hits against him, but surrendered just one run and didn't walk anyone. He struck out two each in his four innings to equal his career-high in strikeouts with eight.

Where Crick's issue was hits, Savannah starter Michael Fulmer was having trouble with free passes. Fulmer walked three in the first three innings, but the GreenJackets had just one hit and couldn't score a run. They finally broke through in the fourth to tie it. Three straight one-out singles loaded the bases and after Elliott Blair struck out for the inning's second out, Jesus Galindo's RBI infield single tied things at one. Like Crick, Fulmer left after just four innings and did not factor in the decision.

The GreenJackets took the lead off Savannah reliever Marcos Camarena (2-1) in the sixth. With one out, Jeff Arnold walked and Joe Staley followed with a single. A fielding error on the Staley single put both runners in scoring position where Arnold scored the eventual winning run on Blair's RBI groundout to put the GreenJackets up 2-1.

Augusta's bullpen delivered a monster performance for the second straight night as DeMondre Arnold and Derek Law held the Sand Gnats to just one hit in five scoreless innings at the back half of the game. Arnold (4-0) retired nine of the ten he faced to get his fourth win in relief. Law got his first save of the year, retiring six of the seven he faced and striking out a pair.

The GreenJackets send Kevin Couture (2-2, 1.61) to the mound on Saturday night in search of their third straight win while Savannah opposes with tough righty Rafael Montero (3-2, 2.64) on another Sparkling Saturday at the ballpark, with postgame fireworks. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com. Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
