Augusta GreenJackets News Release

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, lost 5-4 to the Greenville Drive on Thursday night.

In the top of the first inning, the Drive came ready to play. They scored three runs, mostly capitalizing on two errors by the GreenJackets. Afterwards, starting pitcher Garrett Cave would settle down and keep the Drive at only three runs for the rest of his outing. Cave went five innings, giving up four hits, and only one earned run.

The GreenJackets would continue to claw back in the ball game. Ryan Kirby hit a solo home run to right field in the second inning. Then in the third inning, Jacob Gonzalez would knock in Heliot Ramos to cut the lead to just one run.

In the bottom of sixth inning, with the score still 3-2, Kirby came up big once again. He tripled into the right field corner, which scored Manuel Geraldo from first base. The score was tied for the first time since the first inning.

The Drive would respond in the top of the seventh inning, with two more of their own. They took the lead 5-3 and never surrender it. Even after Heliot Ramos hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Drive still held strong. The GreenJackets dropped the finale 5-4 and lost the series three games to four.

Next for the GreenJackets, they will head to Columbia for a three game series with the Fireflies. The Augusta now sits a .5 game back of Rome in the Southern Division.
