Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Southern Division's best team showed their muscle Sunday afternoon, as the Augusta GreenJackets (82-49, 41-21) belted three homers in the first three innings en route to a 7-0 shutout over the Drive (67-65, 27-35).
Juan Ciriaco began the barrage on Greenville starter Chad Povich (8-6) in the top of the first with a two-out, solo homer. An inning later Augusta added four more runs on four hits, keyed by Dayton Buller's two-run homer and Nick Noonan's two-run double.
The GreenJackets extended their lead to six runs in the top of the third as Angel Villalona collected the team's third round tripper, a crushing shot to leftfield over the Green Monster.
A trio of Augusta pitchers - Craig Clark (8-4), Andrew De La Garza, and Trey Webb - combined on the shutout, as the Drive doubled their hit total from last night's victory. Clark lasted 7.0 scoreless innings, surrendering all four of Greenville's hits while fanning five. De La Garza and Webb each tossed a perfect inning.
David Marks highlighted the Drive offense, recording a 2-for-4 day at the plate, including a double. Zach Penprase and Oscar Tejeda rounded out the Drive's offense as each tallied a single.
After Chad Povich's outing, Michael Rozier and Kyle Foster limited the GreenJackets to one run over the final five innings. Rozier surrendered a run on two hits and a walk, while fanning one in 3.0 innings. Foster held Augusta scoreless over the final 2.0 innings, allowing a pair of hits.
The Drive and GreenJackets conclude their three-game series Monday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM at Fluor Field for the final home game of the 2008 season. Right-hander Brock Huntzinger will toe the rubber for Greenville as Augusta counters with right-hander T.J. Brewer.
Monday will also be "Fan-demonium" at the ballpark, with a tribute to the Drive fans. In addition, cycling champion George Hincapie will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
