Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Rosters for the fifth-annual RadioShack All-Star Futures Game were announced today, and Portland shortstop Khalil Greene has been chosen to represent the U.S. Team against the World Team July 13 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

The Futures Game features the top U.S. and international minor league prospects competing against each other as part of RadioShack All-Star Sunday. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. (Pacific) and will be televised on ESPN2.

RadioShack All-Star Sunday is the first of three days of all-star events at U.S. Cellular Field, culminating with Major League Baseball's 74th All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 15.

Greene, ranked as the San Diego Padres' No. 2 prospect coming into the season, is one of two players representing the Padres organization in the game (infielder Josh Barfield). Greene was a first-round selection of the Padres (13th overall) in the 2002 draft and has spent time with Class AA Mobile and Triple-A Portland this year. Through 14 games with the Beavers, Greene is batting .358 with three home runs and 12 RBIs since being transferred to the club June 9.

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the 30 major league clubs and Baseball America, selected the 25-man rosters for each team. Each major league organization is represented. The World Team includes players from seven different countries. Players from all full-season minor leagues were eligible to participate.

Former Beaver Sean Burroughs played in the 2000 and 2001 Futures games.

There are currently 76 players from the first four RadioShack All-Star Futures Games in the major leagues.

Hall-of-Famer Carlton Fisk will manage the U.S. Team, while eight-time all-star Tony Oliva will manage the World Team.
