Arkansas Travelers News Release

Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, AR - RHP Nick Green (2-1) threw seven innings scoreless innings leading the Arkansas Travelers (8-12) to a 7-0 victory over the Tulsa Drillers (10-10). Green combined with RHP Rafael Rodriguez and RHP Jose Arredondo for a one-hitter, the league-high third shutout tossed by the Travs this season. The last 16 batters were set down with Green retiring the last ten he faced. Green walked one batter and struck out five batters. Travs 2B Adam Morrissey finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run (3), a double and three runs scored. The Travs collected 12 base hits after recording just ten hits in their previous three games.

The fun got started early for the Travs against Tulsa RHP Jon Asahina (2-1). 3B Freddy Sandoval worked a one-out walk and DH Curtis Pride singled to right pushing Sandoval to third base. Then Sean Rodriguez, celebrating his 22nd birthday, singled to right bringing home Sandoval while Pride advanced to third. A sacrifice fly from LF Aaron Peel scored Pride and a single by C Bobby Wilson followed. Michael Collins then hit a sharp grounder that 3B Christian Colonel stopped and tried for a force play at second, but Wilson beat the throw to load the bases. Two more runs scored on the next play when Greg Porter bounced to first base, but Asahina was unable to handle the flip from 1B Duke Sardinha.

The only Drillers base hit came in the second inning when Colonel hit a little bloop single that fell into right field. Green then retired 16 of the last 17 batters he faced.

Leading off the second inning, Morrissey yanked a double to the left-field corner then moved to third on a groundout by Sandoval. With Tulsa's infield playing in, Pride hit a smash that 2B Jeff Dragicevich dived to stop. Although Pride was forced at first base, he knocked in Morrissey for a 5-0 Travs lead.

Morrissey pushed the lead to 6-0 with a solo home run (3) to left field. Then in the fifth, after Rodriguez hit a leadoff double Peel lined a pitch that smacked Asahina above the left eye and ricocheted to first base for the out. Asahina was able to walk off the field with some help, but was later carted off and taken to a local hospital for precautionary reasons. RHP Juan Morillo relieved and got out of the inning leaving two men on base.

Morillo returned for the sixth and issued a one-out walk to Morrissey, and he stole second base before scoring on a single from Sandoval providing the Travs with their seventh run.

Green left after the seventh inning with 88 pitches thrown. Rodriguez struck out one in a perfect eighth inning, while Arredondo whiffed two in the ninth inning.

Time of game was 2:24 and the paid attendance was 3,957.

The Travs now host the Wichita Wranglers in a four-game series beginning Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Friday night's pitching matchup pits Arkansas LHP Daniel Davidson (0-3, 2.49 ERA) against Wichita RHP Luke Hochevar (2-1, 3.27 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. and the gates open at 6:10 p.m.
