Tulsa Blanked On One Hit
April 26, 2007 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Arkansas Travelers got a bit of revenge against the Tulsa Drillers Thursday night. After losing the first three games of a four-game series, Arkansas shutout Tulsa 7-0 in the series finale, as three Travs' hurlers combined to limit the Drillers to only one hit. Despite the setback, Tulsa remains in first place in the North Division standings with a 10-10 record.
In addition to the loss, the Drillers experienced a scary moment in the bottom of the fifth inning. Leftfielder Aaron Peel's line drive struck pitcher Jon Asahina in the head. The Tulsa pitcher was able to leave the field on his own power, but he was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary move.
Arkansas starter pitcher Nick Green turned in his best outing of the season. He allowed only three base runners in seven innings of work.
Chris Frey became the first runner when he was hit by a pitch in the first inning, but he was erased on a double play.
Christian Colonel got the only Tulsa hit in the game, a bloop single with two outs in the second inning.
The only other runner against Green came in the fourth as Matt Miller walked with two outs. He became the only Drillers' runner to advance to second base when Green uncorked a wild pitch, but he was stranded when Tino Sanchez struck out.
Miller would be the final base runner in the game for Tulsa. Green retired the final ten batters he faced. Rafael Rodriguez worked a perfect eighth inning, and Jose Arredondo a 1-2-3 ninth to complete the shutout.
The Travelers jumped to an early lead with four first inning runs off Asahina. They added single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings.
Adam Morrissey led a 12-hit Arkansas attack with three hits, including a double and a homer.
The Drillers now move to Springfield, Missouri where they will begin a four-game series against the Cardinals Friday night. Greg Reynolds (1-0, 1.89 ERA) will pitch for the Drillers against Cory Rauschenberger (0-2, 16.76 ERA) of the Redbirds. Game time at Hammons Field will be at 7:10PM.
