Green Bay Gamblers News Release

LAST WEEKEND

The Green Bay Gamblers split their weekend series with the Tri City Storm at the Resch Center. The Gamblers won the opener 5-3, but fell on to the Storm on Saturday by a 5-3 count.

On Friday night, the Gamblers mirrored an offensive juggernaut with three goals in the opening eight minutes of the hockey game. Forward Mark Stockdale started the scoring at the 3:34 mark and 48 seconds later defenseman Adam Davis tallied his first of the year after newly acquired forward Joe Long, who was making his Gamblers debut on Friday night, won an offensive zone face-off.

Storm forward Cody Chupp cut the Gamblers lead to one, but less than two minutes later Verona, Wisconsin native Dan Sturges scored his third goal on the year to give the Gamblers a 3-1 lead.

The offense the Gamblers displayed in the 1st period was nowhere to be found in the middle stanza as Green Bay was outshot by an 11-1 margin. Tri City also recorded a pair of goals to knot the score at 3-3 heading into the final period.

Green Bay regained the lead on Stockdale's second goal of the game at the 6:49 mark. The goal was Stockdale's 4th of the season and also extended his consecutive game point streak to five games. Rookie Tyler Lehrke salted the game away with an empty net short handed goal with only 41 seconds remaining in regulation.

Less than 24-hours later the two teams were at it again at the Resch Center. Tri City came out guns a blazing outshooting the Gamblers 17-1 and outscoring them 2-0. Tri City tacked on another goal midway through the 2nd period to build their lead to 3-0.

The Gamblers offense finally woke up late in the 2nd period compliments of Chris Stansik. Stansik, who was added to the Gamblers roster after the Pre-Season Buc Bowl, scored a power play goal and then added a short-handed tally 38 seconds later to bring the Gamblers to within one goal.

Tri City regained their two-goal advantage early in the 3rd period, but a little over a minute later Mark Magnowski, who was stationed in the slot area received a perfect pass from line-mate Brad Miller and buried it into the top corner to make it a one-goal affair. The Storm capitalized on a Gamblers defensive breakdown late in the game to regain the two-goal lead and earn the split on the weekend.

Goaltender Michael Zacharias appeared in both games stopping 80 of the Storm's 88 shots over the weekend.
