HEAD COACHES: Green Bay's Brian Noble steps into the position of Head Coach of the Green Bay Blizzard, this popular former Packer brings along an impressive resume of NFL experience, leadership skills and community service. Coach Noble's responsibilities are to prepare the team for success on the field, and draw upon his media knowledge to contribute to the organization in other ways as well.
For nine years, Noble was a ferocious hitter and defensive leader who roamed the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field as an inside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. After being drafted in the fifth round by Green Bay in 1985, he jumped into the starting lineup in only his second regular season game and went on to scoop up the Packers' "Rookie of the Year" award. During his tenure with the Green and Gold, Brian led the team in total tackles four times and also displayed his toughness as a solid special teams player. Prior to his pro career, Noble was a standout football player at Arizona State University and Fullerton Junior College.
During and subsequent to his playing days, Noble worked in both television and radio. As an analyst for the Packers post-game radio show, fans across Wisconsin are familiar with his keen insight on the game and no-holds-barred commentary. In addition to other media ventures, he developed and produced the syndicated television show "Hitting the Outdoors," which has reached millions of households throughout the Midwest.
Rik Richards was named the first head coach of the Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's exciting new arenafootball2 team, on November 18, 2003.
Last year in his first season as head coach of the Charleston Swamp Foxes (af2), Richards guided the team to a franchise-best 9-7 record. After starting the season 0-3, the Swamp Foxes concluded the 2003 season with nine wins in their last 13 games to finish tied for second place in the American Conference's Atlantic Division. Prior to his appointment as head coach with Charleston, Richards spent two years with the Swamp Foxes as their defensive coordinator.
Charleston's trademark in the three seasons that Richards was on staff was its defense. The Swamp Foxes were one of af2's top defenses again in 2003, ranking among the league leaders in nearly every category, including turnover margin (1st â +21), rushing defense (1st â 12.3 ypg), scoring defense (4th â 40.8 ppg allowed), total defense (4th â 212.3 ypg) and pass defense (5th â 200.0 ypg). Charleston forced 50 total turnovers last season, including 34 interceptions, two shy of the all-time af2 record.
Richards began his af2 career in Charleston after a very successful 2000 campaign with the Bismarck Blaze of the Indoor Football League (IFL). Richards guided the defense to top-15 finishes in statistical categories such as total defense, passing defense, and red zone defense. In Bismarck's inaugural season in the IFL, the Blaze managed to surprise just about everyone by going 13-4 and making it to the championship game. Along the way, the team earned accolades with the number one rushing defense in the league and the number two overall defense. The team also sent seven players that year to the Pro Bowl, including five from the defensive unit. Richards was rewarded by his selection as the Defensive Coordinator for the Pro Bowl in Asheville, N.C.
Richards, a Seattle, Wash. native, has progressed through the coaching ranks rapidly. His career spans 11 seasons with coaching experience on the high school, collegiate and professional level. After two years as an assistant coach and as a head coach at the junior high level in Missoula, Mont., he headed for Bismarck, N.D. to work on a Bachelor's Degree while coaching high school football. During his three years at Century High School, he took the team to the state semifinals twice as coach of defensive ends and tight ends. He then went on to coach at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. serving as the tight end coach and helped the Marauders make the National Playoffs for the sixth time in eight years.
