DORADOS GET MORE "PULL" IN THEIR OFFENSE

STEPHEN F. AUSTIN PRODUCT LAWRENCE PULLEN JOINS DORADOS

HIDALGO, TX: May 25, 2004 – The arenafootball2's (af2) Rio Grande Valley Dorados made roster moves today as they prepare for their Friday night tilt in Tulsa, by adding assigned free agent offensive specialist Lawrence Pullen from Wilkes-Barre Scranton to the roster and placing fullback/linebacker Jason Null and lineman Ron Pierce on re-assignment.

Pullen comes to the Dorados after playing one game this season with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers, where he caught 3 passes for 33 yards, contributed one field goal return for 9 yards and also had 3 kickoff returns for 77 yards. The 5'6" 180-pound offensive specialist brings 32 games, spanning two seasons, of arena football experience to the Dorados and adds more offense to the special teams unit, which currently ranks third in the af2 with an average return of 22.7 yards. Pullen started his af2 career in 2000 with the Carolina Rhinos and appeared in all 16 games. He recorded 77 receptions for 1,123 yards and 25 touchdowns with the Rhinos and also had 10 rushing attempts for 41 yards and a touchdown. On special teams with the Rhinos, Pullen tallied 3 touchdowns off of kickoff returns with 1,055 yards in 50 returns and also gained an af2 single-season record 393 yards in missed field goal returns. In 2002, the Waco, Texas native played with the Jacksonville Tomcats, which is the same club Dorados defensive specialist Jimel Cofer played. Pullen hauled in 58 receptions for 868 yards and 19 touchdowns with the Tomcats and also rushed for 18 yards off of 8 carries. He continued his special teams skills with the Tomcats and collected an af2 single-season record 8 touchdowns off kickoff returns, including an af2 record tying 58-yard return. Pullen gained 1,251 kickoff return yards off of 45 returns. In his career, Pullen has 138 receptions for 2,024 yards with 44 touchdowns and has 18 carries for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns. His career special teams numbers include 98 kickoff returns for 2,383 (ranked among af2's top ten all-time) with an af2 all-time record 11 kickoff touchdown returns, and 657 missed field goal return yards, which ranks 2nd all-time in the af2. The 26 year-old played college football for three seasons (97-99) at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He played on special teams during his freshman campaign (1997) and then had his best season during his sophomore season (1998), as he posted 214 receiving yards off of 8 catches in 11 games and also had 21 kickoff returns with an average of 26.9 yards per return to rank as the third best in Lumberjacks history. Pullen was recruited to Stephen F. Austin out of Waco's University High, where he was a four sport letterwinner and was the Central Texas Player of the Year.

Re-assigned from the Dorados roster is Jason Null and Ron Pierce. Null, a Houston native that graduated at Harlingen's Marine Military Academy, leaves the Dorados with 1 rushing touchdown and 8 carries for 7 yards. He also had one reception for 7 yards and had 8 tackles (5 solo) on defense with one sack. Pierce also has area ties, as he completed his college football career at Texas A&M - Kingsville. He has been on the injured reserve list since training camp and never played a down with the Dorados.

The Dorados have a short week this week to prepare for the Tulsa Talons (4-3), since the game is scheduled for Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is the first match-up between the two teams and Tulsa is the only divisional opponent the Dorados have not seen this season. The Dorados (3-4) will be looking for a victory to grab a share of third place in the National Conference's Southwest Division and to end a three game winless streak. The Talons are coming off of a 61-53 win over the Arkansas Twisters. Many of the Dorados games this season have been defensive minded, but this one could be offensive minded, as the Talons scoring offense ranks third in the league (58.9 avg.) and their defense is the second worse in the league (55.4 avg. allowance). The game will be broadcasted on the radio on ESPN Radio 1240 AM (KSOX) with Chris Due providing the play-by-play and online at www.doradosfootball.com.

Individual tickets are currently on sale for the Dorados match-up with Laredo, and may be purchased by stopping by the Dodge Arena offices (2600 N. 10th St. in Hidalgo, Tx) or contacting them by phone at 956-843-7825.
