SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Grapes starter Matt Gibbs and the Pacifics Tyler Pearson knotted Wednesday in a classic pitching duel at Albert Park, with the Pacifics (31-20) coming out on top 4-1. Pearson (4-0) struck out seven and gave up five hits en route to the win over Sonoma County (16-28).

Grapes Manager Joe Morello acknowledged the duel saying, "Tyler pitched a great game, I really have to hand it to him. His stuff was working tonight."

Pearson was solid in the win, saying, "[Matt Alton] made it easy tonight, he called a great game. He knew what I was thinking and I didn't have to shake [him off] very often. It's helpful to keep that rhythm."

"Gibbs was on. I thought he worked really hard and he pitched a great game. His stuff was working too but he just had some bad breaks that we couldn't recover from. It was a great match between Gibbs and Tyler, and Tyler came up ahead, he pitched well," Morello said.

Johnny Woodard launched a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Steve Boggs, recording his ninth homerun and his 32nd RBI on the year, extending the lead to 3-1. San Rafael added their fourth run with Will Wright coming across off a Gibbs wild pitch in the sixth.

Sonoma County's offense sputtered all night, mustering one run in the top of the fourth when George Ban recorded his 19th RBI of the year, plating Boon Maeda.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Pacifics batter Zack Pace squeaked a single past first baseman Johnny Woodard for his 19th RBI of the season. Gibbs was able to work out of the jam, forcing Darrick Hale to bounce into the double play.

Gibbs (3-6) lasted six innings, striking out four and giving up six hits and four runs. Vinny Pacchetti came on strong in relief, striking out all three batters he faced.

Sonoma County is heading into their final series of the 2012 season in their inaugural season as primarily a travel team. Morello is excited for the weekend and moving into next season, saying, "Final series this weekend, we're still looking forward to it. The guys wish we had another 40 games to play. We are just starting to come together as a team and we just don't have enough games to show what we really can do with our talent."

Sonoma County has the day off Thursday, and is back in action 7:30p.m. Friday at Albert Park against the Pacifics.
