Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

ABILENE - After playing shorthanded through the beginning of the week, the Prairie Dogs have returned to full strength by adding right-handed pitcher Erik Gonsalves.

The 24-year-old hurler is coming from the Las Cruces Vaqueros of the Pecos League. In 13 games (all starts) this season, Gonsalves went 6-3 with a 7.50 earned run average. In 72 innings pitched, the first-year-pro allowed 96 hits and 39 walks while striking 45 batters.

The addition of Gonsavles comes a good time for what has become a taxed Abilene bullpen. Prairie Dogs' relievers have teamed up to throw 161/3 total innings in the last three days.

The Prairie Dogs open a six-game home stand tonight when they welcome the Fort Worth Cats to Walt Driggers Field. It is youth league night at the ballpark. Anyone wearing a youth league jersey can receive a $3 ticket at the gate. The game starts at 7:05 and the gates will open at 6:00.
