Roadrunners Win Third Straight

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners won their third-straight game behind seven strong innings from starter Dave Dinelli defeating the McAllen Thunder 6-2 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Dinelli (4-8) picked up his fourth win after allowing just one run on three hits with three strikeouts. He now has 82 strikeouts on the season, which leads the league.

The Roadrunners (44-29) jumped out in front of the Thunder (27-46) in the bottom of the first. Vincent Blue hit a one-out double and then Wilmer Pino followed with a walk. After a double steal put runners at second and third, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI groundout that allowed Blue to score for the 1-0 advantage.

Fidel Hernandez drew the bases loaded walk in the top of the third that allowed Gianison Rosa to score tying the game at one.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tim Battle and Eric Bloom had back-to-back walks and then they moved up after sacrifice bunt. Stantrel Smith then hit a two-run single that allowed Battle and Bloom to score giving Edinburg the 3-1 lead.

Edinburg added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh. Battle and Bloom again reached on walks and then moved to up on another sacrifice bunt. Smith delivered an RBI single that allowed Battle to score. After Blue was hit by a pitch, Pino hit a two-run double that allowed Bloom and Smith to score extending the lead to 6-1

The Thunder picked up a run in the top of the eighth after an RBI single by Henry Gonzalez that made it 6-2.

Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth giving the Roadrunners the 6-2 victory.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will continue their four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
