San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts made a slew of roster moves Wednesday in preparation for their eight-game road trip to Rio Grande Valley and Edinburg.

San Angelo has acquired pitcher Demetrius Banks from the McAllen Thunder in exchange for future considerations, and signed pitcher Alfredo Caballero and catcher Justin McDavid. The Colts also placed catcher Collin Janssen on the Inactive List.

Banks went 3-5 with a 5.59 earned-run average in 12 games and 10 starts for McAllen. The 29-year-old lefty also had a complete game shutout against the Edinburg Roadrunners on July 4.

Now in his 11th professional season, Banks was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2002. He spent five years in the White Sox organization, and reached as high as the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Warthogs of the Carolina League in 2006. Banks has been in independent baseball since 2007.

Banks has a 31-22 career record and a 4.67 earned-run average in 215 games and 52 starts.

Caballero began this season with the Alpine Cowboys of the semi-pro Pecos League. There, he went 3-2 with a 3.51 earned-run average and 13 saves in 32 relief appearances.

A 27-year-old righty, Caballero began his professional career in 2011. He split last season between the Colts, the Cowboys and the El Paso Diablos of the independent American Association. Caballero made three relief appearances for the Colts last year.

Now in his second season, Caballero is 1-4 with a 10.55 earned-run average in eight games as a professional. Between his time in the pros and the Pecos League, he is 10-9 with a 5.22 earned-run average in 53 games and 15 starts.

McDavid is 23-year-old rookie from Arizona who also began this season with the Cowboys of the Pecos League. He hit .343 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs in 63 games for Alpine.

McDavid played his first two years of college ball at Chandler Gilbert Community College in Arizona, and then transferred to Division I West Virginia University. At West Virginia, he batted .283 with seven homers and 88 RBIs in 106 games.

Janssen is on the Inactive List due to an ankle injury. The 22-year-old rookie is 3-for-9 (.333) with an RBI in three games with the Colts. Janssen's lone RBI came on a game-winning single.

The Colts begin their road trip Thursday with game one of a four-game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Harlingen. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
