Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Kickers (5-4-4) recorded their fifth victory of the season as they defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (1-6-3) 3-1 on Saturday night at City Stadium. Richmond found the back of the net through two own goals in the first half and an Anthony Grant header in the second half, Pittsburgh were able to pull one goal back through Corey Hertzog.

Richmond took the lead in the 17th minute from an own goal. After a ball was partially cleared by the Pittsburgh defense, Richmond midfielder, Yudai Imura, struck the ball with his left foot and his volley struck the Riverhounds defender in the chest before going into the back of the net.

In the 20th minute Kickers doubled their lead, again from an own goal. From a Kickers' corner, Lucas Paulini flicked the ball to Brian Ownby in the box, who shot the ball with his left foot, which would rattle off the crossbar onto the Pittsburgh goalkeeper's back and into the goal, giving the Kickers a 2-0 lead.

Kickers almost found themselves up 3-0 in the 39th minute. Alex Lee played a through ball from just inside the Pittsburgh half, that found forward, Jason Yeisley, whose first time effort was just over Hunter Gilstrap's goal.

The second half saw Anthony Grant score the Kickers third goal in the 67th minute. Fred Owsusu Sekyere collected the ball in the box and made space to cross the ball, finding second half substitute, Anthony Grant, at the back post, who flicked the ball towards the corner, past the keeper, scoring his first league goal and second of the season for the Kickers.

Pittsburgh were able to test Richmond goalie, Charlie Horton, in the 82nd minute. From a corner kick, Riverhound defender, William Hunt, made a near post run, flicking the ball towards goal, but would be easily saved by Horton.

The Riverhounds were able to pull a goal back in the 90th minute. After a corner kick the ball fell to Corey Herzog inside the six-yard box, who placed the ball past Charlie Horton.

Richmond were able to see out the win, with the game finishing 3-1, ending the four game winless streak. The Kickers have now won five of their seven home games this season, recording 16 points in total from City Stadium.

The Kickers will be back at City Stadium on Saturday, June 25 as they host Family Fest and the Bethlem Steel. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.
