San Antonio FC News Release

PORTLAND, OR - San Antonio FC tied Portland Timbers 2, 1-1 at Merlo Field on Saturday night. SAFC came from behind to level the score in the late minutes of the match after an early own goal in the first half put the Alamo City club behind.

The first goal of the match came in the 15th minute when SAFC midfielder Carlos Alvarez accidentally headed a Timbers corner into his own net, giving the hosts the 1-0 lead. The goal was the first own goal in franchise history.

San Antonio FC tested Portland several times throughout the match, but was unlucky in front of goal until defender Milton Palacios found the equalizer after capitalizing on a corner kick in the 87th minute.

The goal was Palacios' first this season and the first for San Antonio FC in league play since April 30. The Honduras native has made eleven appearances this season, and has recorded 904 minutes in USL action.

Portland Timbers 2 forward Kharlton Belmar was issued a red card in the 83rd minute for a hard tackle on SAFC goalkeeper Josh Ford. Belmar came into the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute.

San Antonio FC will return to action on Wednesday, June 15 as they travel to Houston to take on the Houston Dynamo (MLS) in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The team will then host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field just three days later on June 18.
