Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Snappers pulled within one run on two different occasions on Thursday, but the Tyler Stephenson crushed a grand slam in the ninth inning that gave Dayton the final 7-2 score. Taking two of three games at Pohlman Field, Dayton is the first visiting team to win a series in Beloit. Stephenson's slam off Xavier Altamirano was the first home run off a Snappers pitcher since April 21.

Snappers starter Dalton Sawyer faced the minimum the first time through the Dragons order with the help of one double play. His scoreless streak of 17 innings grew to 21 innings on Thursday, but that shutout run ended in the fifth inning when the two runners he left aboard scored after he was lifted for Mitchell Jordan. Jordan halted one of several attempts by Dayton to blow the game open by striking out the side after the Dragons loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh.

The Snappers converted twelve Dayton baserunners into outs during the three-game series due to runners caught stealing or attempting to take extra bases. Also on defense, the Snappers turned four more double plays to total nine twin killers over the three games. The fourth double play of the game came in a crucial moment as center fielder Mike Martin made a diving catch with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth. His throw to third doubled up the runner that left the base too early to try to score.

Nate Mondou's on-base streak reached an even 20 games thanks to a walk in the first inning, and he would eventually get on base all five times he came to the plate with three hits and two walks. Mondou drove in both of the Snappers runs with a pair of RBI singles. The first was on a bunt single in the fifth that improved his hit streak to 10 games, and the second single was in the seventh. Eric Marinez finished the night 2-for-4 for the second game in a row.
