Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

Grand Prairie, TX - Kieran Mattison pitched a one hit gem as the Grand Prairie AirHogs snapped a five game Sioux Falls Canaries winning streak with a 6-2 victory on Saturday night.

Mattison (5-1) earned the victory pitching six scoreless innings. He allowed one run, unearned, on one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.

Grand Prairie leapt out to the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Leading off the inning, Edwin Maldonado blasted a solo shot to left field.

Two errors helped the Canaries even the score at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Paul Smyth reached on a single to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a stolen base, and made his way to third on an error on the throw from the catcher J.B. Tucker. With two outs, he would score on a ground ball hit to first base. Billy Munoz flipped the ball to the pitcher Kieran Mattison covering the bag, but Mattison dropped the ball, allowing Smyth to score the tying run.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Michael Conroy came up with his first base hit as an AirHog in a clutch situation. He ripped a ground ball through the box into shallow center field, plating J.B. Tucker and Billy Munoz for the 3-1 lead. Grand Prairie extended their advantage to 4-1 on a Drew Holder sacrifice fly that brought in Edwin Maldonado with two outs.

Aaron Garza drilled a double down the left field line to start the bottom of the fifth inning. He would reach third on a David Espinosa ground out, and give the AirHogs the 5-1 lead by coming in on a wild pitch by pitcher Ryan Grant.

The teams would exchange runs in the seventh. Sioux Falls cut their deficit to 5-2 in the top half of the inning on an RBI single for Andrew Barbaro through the right side of the infield. Grand Prairie responded in the bottom of the frame with an Edwin Maldonado RBI on a fielder's choice to second that brought in Espinosa from third.
