NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release
HARRISON, NJ - Gotham FC announced today it has traded goalkeeper Abby Smith to the Houston Dash in exchange for $20,000 in intra-league transfer funds.
"I would like to extend my gratitude to my teammates and the fans at Gotham FC," said Smith. "Raising a trophy with y'all goes down as one of the highlights, and I feel so blessed to be able to bring that experience into this new chapter of my career!"
In 2023, Smith made 15 league appearances in the regular season. She recorded 45 saves and four clean sheets, with a 1.00 goals against average, helping Gotham FC reach the playoffs and eventually win their first-ever NWSL Championship. Additionally, she earned Save of the Week honors for Weeks 4, 5, 10, 14, and 15. Smith was also nominated for the 2023 Nationwide Community Impact Award.
After spending most of the 2024 season sidelined due to injury, Smith made her first and only appearance of the year in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup Final, coming on as a substitute late in the match. Smith was nominated for the Lauren Holiday Impact Award that year, due to her many contributions off the field.
"Abby has been an incredible presence for Gotham FC and was one of our first free agent signings," said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. We are grateful for everything she has brought to the club and wish her the best of luck in her next chapter."
