Gorillas Work for Children

AMARILLO, TX â Members of the Amarillo Gorillas will be doing their part to help make Christmas a bit brighter for children who are staying at two local hospitals.
Several Gorillas players will be visiting BSA Hospital and Northwest Texas Hospital childrens wards today, Tuesday Dec. 17 to spread a bit of Christmas cheer and to sign autographs.
The first stop will be BSA Hospital at 1 p.m. and then the players will travel over to Northwest Texas Hospital.
"We want to thank Paramount Terrace Christian Church for helping to set up this visit," said Director of Community Relations Denis J. Puska. "We want to help make Christmas a special time for these children who won't be able to be home for the holidays."
Gorillas collect 1,500 teddy bears for Eveline Rivers Society
When it rains it pours.
That saying may best describe the scene at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center on Saturday night as hockey fans showered the ice with stuffed animals, teddy bears and stuffed gorillas to help support the Eveline Rivers Society.
It took until the 1:48 mark of the third period before the Gorillas connected on their first goal of the game. Ben Maidment's shot was deflected in off of a Bossier Shreveport player and into the goal.
Fans literally covered the ice with stuffed animals and plastic bananas as approximately 1,500 Teddy Bears were collected.
"Our fans really went the extra mile this year and made it the best Teddy Bear toss ever," said Director of Community Relations Denis J. Puska. "The Eveline Rivers Society does such a great job every year collecting toys and preparing the gifts for the children. We are so happy to be able to help out with such a great cause.
