Colorado Eagles News Release
AMARILLO, TX- The Amarillo Gorillas blanked the Colorado Eagles Friday night 3-0 behind the goaltending of Shawn Degagne who saved all 35 Eagles' shots. It marked the first time this season that the Eagles have been shutout and only the fourth time in team history (including playoffs). Brent Hughes scored two goals for the Gorillas whose record improved to 15-13-3 overall and 3-1-0 against Colorado. The Eagles were 0-11 on the power play marking only the seventh time this season the team has not tallied a power play goal. This was the first of three games in three days for the Eagles in three different cities.
Colorado out shot the Gorillas 19-6 in the first period and forced the pace of play throughout but couldn't get the puck passed Degagne ending the period with a scoreless tie.
Brent Hughes scored only 37 seconds into the first period giving the Gorillas a 1-0 lead and that would be all they would need. Scott Wray added a goal at the 14:47 mark of the period, the first power play goal the Eagles had given up in the last 42 chances. The Gorillas took their 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Degagne single handedly kept the Eagles off the scoreboard in the third period with a couple remarkable saves. Finally Brent Hughes tallied his second goal of the game with an empty netter in the final minute of the game.
