Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 11/4/08 - After having won two of their last three, the Amarillo Gorillas will wrap up their eight-game homestand with a game against the Rapid City Rush on "Military Appreciation Night," Friday, November 7.
During "Military Appreciation Night," fans who show a U.S. Military I.D. card at the box office will receive a special discounted ticket rate of $9. Or, fans not in the U.S. Military can bring in five cans of food for the High Plains Food Bank and receive $5 off their ticket price. The food can be brought to the Gorillas' box office (901 S. Buchanan in Amarillo) or to the Amarillo Civic Center box office prior to the game's start time of 7:05 PM.
The matchup on "Military Appreciation Night" is a much-anticipated one for Gorillas fans, as former Amarillo head coach Joe Ferras will be welcomed back to the Texas Panhandle. Ferras is now the head coach for the visiting Rush.
As if that weren't enough to fuel storylines for the game, Rapid City's lineup features three former Gorillas, as the Rush have only one regulation loss in their first seven games. The Rush are second in the CHL's Northwest Division standings with eight points (2-1-4), while the Gorillas are fourth in the Southwest Division with four points (2-6-0).
"Rapid City is a talented team," said current Gorillas head coach Tom Coolen during his weekly âTom Coolen Coaches Show Presented by Bud Light'. "(Rapid City Coach Joe) Ferras has put together a good bunch of players, and it will be a very challenging game for us."
There will be no jersey auction Friday night, as the special festivities involved with "Military Appreciation Night" will be the centerpiece of the evening. âStomp's Romp' and the âYes Club' will both be open Friday as well. Starting at 5:30 PM and running until 6:00 PM, Ferras will be in the Ape Escape to meet and greet with Gorillas fans for the first time since departing the team in 2006.
The game Friday night will be the final game at home for Amarillo until November 28, as the team goes on a six-game road stretch. Select tickets are still available, and can be purchased at the Gorillas' box office (901 S. Buchanan in Amarillo) or at any Panhandle Tickets outlet. Tickets can also be reserved by calling (806) 242-PUCK (7825) or by visiting www.panhandletickets.com.
