Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Gorillas are once again the talk of the Central Hockey League and are on one of those rolls that has been part of their success story the past two seasons.

The Gorillas extended their unbeaten string to five games following three wins this past week. All three victories needed overtime or a shootout to decide the outcome and propelled the Gorillas to a mark of 9-8-2 in the Southwest Division. The Gorillas are tied for third place in the division with the Odessa Jackalopes, but placed ahead of the Odessa because they have more wins.

In the process, the Gorillas have a 6-3-2 record on home ice and now are just two games below the .500 mark on the road at 3-5. Goaltender Shawn Degagne has not allowed a goal in the last seven shooters in a shootout that he has faced and has a goals against average of 1.93 in his last five starts.

Last week the Gorillas rallied to beat the New Mexico Scorpions 3-2 in a shootout with Trevor Socholotuk notching the winner. On Friday night in Odessa, Dan Donnette's first goal as a member of the Gorillas proved to be an important one as Amarillo won 4-3 in a shootout.

On Saturday night, the Amarillo Gorillas rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to beat the Lubbock Cotton Kings 4-3 in overtime. Brent Hughes picked up the game winner.

The Amarillo Gorillas will try to extend their winning streak on Wednesday night when they travel to Fort Collins, Colorado to face the Eagles at the Budweiser Event Center.
