Published on December 13, 2004 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Wichita center Travis Clayton and Laredo netminder Jeremy Symington have been selected as the Week Eight recipients of the Oakley Player and Goaltender of the Week awards. Clayton recorded three goals and three assists as the Northwest Division leading Thunder posted a 2-1-0 mark during the week, while Symington allowed a total of two goals against in Bucks home ice victories over Southwest Division leading San Angelo and Northeast Division leading Fort Worth.

Wichita's Clayton currently ranks 9th all-time in CHL career scoring with 569 points, adding six with three multiple point outings this past week. He had two assists in a 4-2 loss to Memphis on December 10th, had a two goal effort in a 4-2 win at Oklahoma City the following night, and completed his week with a goal and an assist in a 5-3 home win over Bossier-Shreveport on Sunday. The Saskatchewan native has been named CHL Player of the Week twice in each of the last two seasons, and was also recognized as the CHL Player of the Month for March of 2004. Wichita leads the CHL with 14 wins to date this season, and Clayton leads his club with four game winning goals and 70 shots on goal.

Laredo's Symington has started, and won, each of the last four games for the defending President's Cup Champion Bucks. Friday, he made 25 saves as Laredo topped visiting San Angelo by a score of 6-1, then turned aside 32 shots the following night in a 4-1 win over visiting Fort Worth. His outstanding play of late has lowered his goals against average to 2.23 (fourth in the CHL). Acquired by the Bucks via trade with Lubbock just prior to the start of the season, Symington played four years at St. Lawrence University prior to turning pro. He helped St. Lawrence advance to the NCAA tournament the final three years he played, winning ECAC Post-season tournament MVP honors his senior season.
