Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX â A new face with some scoring touch around the net was added to the Amarillo Gorillas roster today with the signing of forward Dan Donnette.
Donnette spent most of 2003-2004 season with the Miami Manatees WHA2 where he had 14 goals and added 22 assists for 36 points and 24 penalty minutes. The young right-winger also spent time with the Fort Wayne Komets of the United Hockey League where he had no points in six games.
Donnette said he is looking forward to contributing to the hockey club any way he can. "I am all-around player known as a defensive forward and like to help out on the offensive side," Donnette said from his home in Minnesota. "I have heard nothing but good things about CHL and Amarillo, and I am looking forward to a great season."
Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras says he is happy to have Donnette join the hockey club.
"Dan has great speed and plays with an edge," said Gorillas Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras. "He had a great season last year in the WHA2, and I think that will be great seasoning for him to make an impact at the CHL level."
Prior to turning pro, Donnette played two years (2001-2002, 2002-2003) at Northern Michigan University where he played in 81 games and had 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points and 42 penalty minutes.
The 5-foot, 10 inch 170 pound right shooting forward played junior hockey with the Des-Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. In 105 career games, Donnette picked up 16 goals and notched 33 assists for 39 points and 60 penalty minutes. He appeared in 26 playoff games where he proved to be a valuable asset with 10 goals and six assists for 16 points and 17 penalty minutes. "I know Dan is a high character guy with a great work ethic and he will definitely be a compliment to this hockey team," said Ferras.
Dan Donnette is the 11th player signed by the Amarillo Gorillas for the 2004-2005 season.
The Gorillas are preparing for their third season at the Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. Full and partial season tickets as well as corporate packages are still available by either dropping by the Gorillas hockey office at 1934 Civic Circle or calling 242-7825.
