CINCINNATI, Ohio - Ben Gordon's powerplay overtime goal 49 seconds into the frame lifted the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 3-2 victory over the Reading Royals on Tuesday night. The victory was the sixth come-from-behind win for the Cyclones and moved them into sole possession of first place in the North Division.

Reading opened the scoring with the only tally of the first period. At 9:17, Brock Hooton netted his 14th goal of the season coming up the right wing side and flipped a backhanded shot past Cyclones netminder Ryan Nie. The shots on goal in the opening frame were knotted at eleven each.

There was no scoring in the second period. The shots favored Cincinnati, 11-8.

In the third period, the Cyclones tied the game 8:21 in, as Ian McKenzie collected his seventh goal from Dustin Sproat and Ben McLeod. Cincinnati got its first lead of the night 10:29 in, as Jimmy Kilpatrick collected his 22nd goal on the power play from Mark Van Guilder and Frederic St. Denis. A goal by Dinos Stamoulois at 14:43 forced the overtime. The shots again favored Cincinnati, 14-6.

In the overtime, Kilpatrick was hauled down in the right corner by Rob LaLonde hook and the ensuing power play set the table for Gordon's heroics. Gordon fired the game ending shot from the right faceoff dot with Mike Salekin and Bryan O'Hanley handing out the helpers.

The win was the ninth in the lst ten games for Cincinnati and puts it one point ahead of Johnstown and Wheeling for the division lead. Cincinnati went two-for-seven on the power play and was a perfect five-for-five on the penalty kill. It was the twelfth overtime game of the season for Cincinnati-the most in the ECHL.

Ryan Nie improved to 7-0, the best start by a goaltender in team history, by turning aside 23 shots. James Riemer took the overtime loss, stopping 34 shots for Reading.

The Cyclones are now 25-16-5 on the season, while Reading is 14-28-3. The Cyclones play at Mississippi on Friday night at 8pm. The game will be carried on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5) with the pregame show at 7:45pm and faceoff is at 8pm.
