
Condors rally but fall short in Vegas, 6-5

LAS VEGAS - The Bakersfield Condors scored four goals in a third-period comeback attempt, but the Las Vegas Wranglers held on to win, 6-5, before 2,757 fans at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Monday night. C Brett Pilkington scored two goals in the Condors late rally.
The Wranglers (20-18-4, 44pts) took an early lead just 37 seconds into the first period with a goal from C Chris Neiszner. Neither team lit the lamp during the rest of the frame, keeping Vegas ahead, 1-0, through the first 20 minutes. Shots on goal favored the Wranglers, 10-7, after one.
Las Vegas added to its lead with a pair of goals early in the second period, leading to a goaltending change for the Condors (14-25-6, 34pts), with G Dave McKee taking over between the pipes. Two minutes later, C Bruce Graham got the Condors on the board with his 13th goal of the campaign, making it 3-1. However, Vegas responded with two more tallies late in the frame to move ahead, 5-1.
With G Yutaka Fukufuji, who started the game, back in net for Bakersfield, the Condors began their comeback attempt 5:29 into the third period with D Donny Grover's first tally of the season. Las Vegas scored six minutes later, but then Bakersfield rattled off three goals in the final three minutes of the game to pull within one, 6-5, before running out of time. LW Mark Derlago snapped home his 13th of the season at 17:12, and was followed by two goals from Pilkington at 17:40 and 19:27. Fukufuji stopped 17 of 21 shots in just over 43 minutes of action, and was charged with the loss.

The Condors are back at home on Wednesday to host the Idaho Steelheads for High School / College ID Night at The Nest, sponsored by My 45 and 106.1 KRAB Radio. High School and college students can receive $1 lower-bowl admission to the game by presenting their student ID at the box office. Doors open at 6 p.m., the puck drops at 7 p.m.
