For the second straight week, Quad City Steamwheelers OS Ira Gooch has done it again, earning af2 Player of the Week honors. Gooch, all but mirrored his Week 7 performance at Wichita with a 329 all-purpose yard effort against the Green Bay Blizzard in Week 8.
Against the Blizzard, Gooch's 329 all-purpose yard performance played a major role en route to a 64-55 victory over the Blizzard. He caught seven passes for 134 yards, returned seven kickoffs for 166 yards and returned a missed field goal for 29 yards. Two of the receptions went for touchdowns and Gooch even returned a kickoff 52-yards for a score.
In Week 7 vs. the Stealth, Gooch racked up 397 all-purpose yards, three shy of the af2 record, which earned him af2 Player of the Week honors for that week. He caught 11 passes for 189 yards, four for touchdowns, and returned eight kickoffs for 208 yards including a 57-yard kickoff return for a TD.
Gooch and the âWheelers are set to hit the road for two weeks as they take on Midwest Division rivals Louisville Fire (on May 24th) and the Cincinnati Swarm on (May 31st). The âWheelers then return home to face the same two teams beginning on June 7th.
