Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss â The af2 announced today that Memphis Xplorers defensive specialist Kenzaki Jones has been selected the ADT Defensive Player of the Week. Jones had two interceptions, returning one for a TD, in the Xplorers' 68-20 win over the Louisville Fire on Saturday night. The Xplorers are off this weekend, but return to action on Friday, May 30th at the DeSoto Civic Center against the Bossier City Battle Wings. For tickets call (662) 280-3737 or go online to www.xplorersaf2.com.
Jones had two solo tackles, four assisted tackles, and seven passes defended to go along with his two interceptions. In addition to his work on the field, Jones also sang the national anthem prior to the game. Jones' stellar performance just so happened to coincide with his 25th birthday Saturday.
"Kenzaki was able to come in and make a big impact right away," said Xplorers head coach Danton Barto. "We lost Keith Spann two weeks ago in Arkansas, but Kenzaki came up huge for us. The whole team played very well and he really led the way."
With the win over Louisville the Xplorers snapped a four-game losing streak. The 20 points allowed were a season low by the Xplorers, while they mustered a season-high total of 68. The Xplorers tied a season high with four sacks and scored two defensive TDs.
