SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The Memphis Xplorers halted a four-game losing streak with a 68-20 win over the visiting Louisville Fire this past Saturday night. The Xplorers also backed up their "Guarantee" of a win and picked up some momentum heading into their bye week with a record of 2-5. The Xplorers are off this weekend, but return to action on Friday, May 30th at the DeSoto Civic Center against the Bossier City Battle Wings. WHAT AN EFFORT

· The Xplorers brought a tough four-game slide to an emphatic end with a 68-20 whipping of the Louisville Fire. The Xplorers broke the game wide open with 30 points in the third quarter and cruised to their biggest win of the season.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

· Xplorers QB Rod Robinson had a fun 27th birthday on Saturday. He went 13-23, connected on four TD passes, and ran for two TDs as well.

FULL SERVICE PLAYER

· Xplorers defensive specialist Kenzaki Jones also celebrated his birthday on Saturday, turning 25. He made four tackles, defended seven passes, and returned an interception forty yards for a TD. Plus prior to the game he sang the national anthem.

SACKS

· After struggling to get pressure on the opposing QB, the Xplorers have been bringing the heat lately. Two weeks ago they set a season-high with four sacks against Arkansas. This past Saturday the Xplorers again totaled four sacks as they destroyed Louisville and set a season low for points allowed with 20.

BRAGGING RIGHTS

· Louisville head coach Tommy Johnson and Memphis Xplorers head coach Danton Barto have a strong personal connection. Barto and Johnson played high school football together at Niceville H.S. in Florida and both played on the Eagles 1988 Florida state championship team. With the Xplorers' 68-20 win over Louisville this past Saturday, Barto has the early lead for bragging rights when the two get together at the 15th reunion of their state championship team later this summer. Memphis travels to Louisville on June 21st for their final meeting of the regular season.

MEMPHIS 68 - LOUISVILLE - 5/17/03 – SATURDAY

Saturday night the Memphis Xplorers destroyed the Louisville Fire 68-20 at the DeSoto Civic Center to end a four game losing streak. WR/DB Terrell Adams had a big game for the Xplorers with a TD catch and a 49 yard fumble return for a defensive TD. The Xplorers enter the upcoming bye week with a record of 2-5. FIRST HALF

The Xplorers took the early lead and never looked back as QB Rod Robinson connected on a slant pass with Adrian Burnette from nine yards out to make it 6-0. The Xplorers then capitalized on defense as Adams stripped Louisville QB Josh Rogers of the ball and returned it 49 yards for a TD and a 14-0 advantage. The Xplorers added two more TDs in the second quarter on runs by Robinson and took a 28-14 lead at halftime.

SECOND HALF

The Xplorers came out smoking the in third quarter. Robinson connected with Adams on a 23 yard catch and run for a 36-14 lead. Then Thomas Herron sacked Rogers for a safety and the Xplorers took the ensuing free kick and scored on a 30 yard pass from Robinson to Burnette to make it 46-14. Later in the frame, defensive specialist Kenzaki Jones intercepted Rogers and returned the ball 40 yards for a TD and a 52-20 Memphis advantage. The Xplorers went on to outscore the Fire 30-6 in the third quarter and rolled to an easy win.

FINAL SCORE Memphis 68, Louisville 20.
