Gonzalez pitches Tucson to a win

Edgar Gonzalez threw seven strong innings Saturday night in Fresno, lifting Tucson to a 7-1 victory over the Grizzlies at Grizzlies Stadium. Gonzalez struck out eight while earning his first win at the Triple-A or Major League level since mid-July of last year.

Tucson got on the board in the third inning against Jeremy Fikac when Sergio Santos doubled and scored on a single from Juan Brito.

The Sidewinders extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning, scoring twice against former Sidewinder and Diamondback pitcher Stephen Randolph.

Doug Devore walked to start the inning before Randolph allowed singles to Conor Jackson and Santos to load the bases. Brito and Gonzalez followed with strikeouts. However Randolph walked both Andy Green and Brian Barden with the bases loaded to force in two runs.

The Grizzlies finally got on the board against Gonzalez in the sixth when Mickey Lopez doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Michael Cervenak.

The Sidewinders put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh scoring four times against Al Levine. Jackson ‚¬â„¢s third hit of the game produced the first run of the frame. Brito capped the scoring with a two-run single.

Jackson finished 4-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Brito added two hits and three RBI ‚¬â„¢s. Santos went 2-3 with an RBI.

Fresno will host Tucson in game two of the four-game series Sunday afternoon in 2:05 p.m. game. Jon Cannon (1-1 5.14) will start for the Sidewinders against the Grizzlies Brad Hennessey (1-1 2.41). The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
