Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Doug Devore blasted a tenth inning grand slam Sunday afternoon, providing Tucson with a 6-2 lead over Fresno and eventual win at Grizzlies Stadium. Tucson won for the fourth straight game and improved to .500 for the first time this year at 9-9.

Kevin Correia retired the first four batters he faced before Brian Barden singled with one out in the tenth. Josh Kroeger drew a walk and Carlos Quentin singled to load the bases before Devore's slam, his fourth home run of the season.

Fresno's Todd Linden started the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run off Tucson starter Jon Cannon.

Cannon helped the Sidewinders get on the board in the fifth inning. Cannon collected his second hit of the game to begin the frame and promptly swiped second base. Keoni DeRenne followed with a double to right scoring Cannon to tie the game. DeRenne later scored on a single from Josh Kroeger, putting Tucson in front 2-1.

Fresno tied the game at 2 without a hit in the seventh inning. Cannon walked Linden to lead off the inning. With two outs Linden stole second base, went to third on a throwing error by the catcher Craig Ansman. Kroeger's throw towards third base skipped into the stands and Linden was allowed to score the tying run.

Kerry Ligtenberg earned his second win with Tucson throwing two scoreless innings. Quentin led Tucson's 14 hit attack with four hits.

Fresno and Tucson will play game three of the series Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at Grizzlies Stadium. Shane Nance (0-1 3.38) will make a spot start for Tucson against Fresno's Patrick Misch (0-1 4.30). The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
