EASTLAKE, OH - Alonzo Gonzalez continued the Lansing Lugnuts' (2-1) string of starting pitching success, supported by a 13-hit offensive barrage, in a comfortable 8-1 victory over the Lake County Captains (1-2) on Saturday afternoon at Classic Park.

The 21-year-old Gonzalez (Win, 1-0) delivered six scoreless innings in his Midwest League debut, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six. Combined with the performances of Javier Avendano and Taylor Cole, Lansing starters have now given up just one unearned run on six hits in 17 innings through the season's first three games.

Comparatively, Lake County starter Mitch Brown (Loss, 0-1), the Indians' #5 prospect according to Baseball America, did not last through the first inning. The first five Lugnuts all hit safely in a four-run frame, with a two-out bases-loaded walk to ninth-place Jorge Flores spelling the end of Brown's outing.

As it turned out, Flores was the lone Lugs starter not to collect a base hit in the game. Teammates Gustavo Pierre, Balbino Fuenmayor, Chris Hawkins, Carlos Ramirez and Seth Conner each collected two hits; Pierre and Dalton Pompey scored a pair of runs; and Pierre and Fuenmayor each drove in a pair to spearhead a balanced effort.

The lone blemish on the lineup's showing: 16 strikeouts against five Captains pitchers, including seven strikeouts notched by reliever Luis Morel in just three innings.

A Martin Cervenka RBI groundout in the seventh off reliever Griffin Murphy supplied Lake County's only scoring.

In relief of Gonzalez, Murphy worked the seventh inning, Ian Kadish struck out two in a perfect eighth, and Arik Sikula allowing a single and a walk in the ninth.

The finale of the four-game set is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, pitting 18-year-old Lugnuts right-hander Roberto Osuna against Captains right-hander Jake Sisco.

Lansing returns home to face the Michigan State Spartans in the Crosstown Showdown presented by Auto-Owners Insurance at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, April 11th. Lugnuts tickets are available for purchase at lansinglugnuts.com and by calling 517-485-4500, and Lugnuts text alerts are easily accessed by texting LUGNUTS to 313131.
