Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Juan Diaz proved once again Friday night why he is the best designated hitter in the Northern League.

Diaz hit a three-run home run to lift the Winnipeg Goldeyes (32-32) past the Lake County Fielders (26-35) 5-1 in seven innings in Game 1 of tonight's doubleheader in Zion, Ill.

Diaz hit the two-out dinger in the top of the sixth inning and finished the game three-for-three at the plate with three RBI.

Price Kendall and Wes Long had RBI singles to open the scoring in the sixth inning.

Goldeyes starter Stephen Flake went the full seven innings for his third win of the season and first complete game. Flake fanned four and walked a pair.

Ryan Bicondoa also went the distance in a losing effort for Lake County.

The game started off with a bang in the first inning when Lake County right fielder Brian McFall was thrown out of the game. He was tossed after he slammed his helmet to the ground in frustration on a third strike call.

The second game of the doubleheader goes later tonight.
