Goldeyes Top Railroaders in Cleburne

CLEBURNE, TX - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-14) beat the Cleburne Railroaders 10-4 at The Depot at Cleburne Station on Wednesday night.

Max Murphy led off the top of the fourth with an infield single, took second on a throwing error, and advanced to third on Kyle Martin's flyout to left. Raul Navarro lined a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Murphy to score just ahead of Noah Vaughan's throw with the game's first run.

Kevin Lachance tripled to right-centre leading off the top of the fifth and scored the Goldeyes' second run on a Wes Darvill groundout to second.

Murphy opened the top of the sixth with a single and advanced to second when Martin walked. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Navarro ripped a double to left that made it 4-0 Winnipeg. Two batters later, Lachance tripled to left to drive in Navarro. Lachance's two triples tied a Goldeyes' single-game record, last accomplished by Josh Romanski on July 2^nd, 2016 vs. Sioux Falls.

The Railroaders got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, RBI single from Ramon Hernandez.

In the top of the seventh, Winnipeg re-extended the lead to 6-1 on a two-out, RBI infield single from Logan Hill.

The Goldeyes broke the game open in the top of the ninth with four runs. A single from Tyler Hill and a walk to Darren Seferina set up a three-run home run down the right field line from Martin. Lachance added an RBI single that plated Navarro to make it 10-1.

Cleburne (11-15) scored three two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single from Colton Pogue and an RBI single from Tyler Ryan.

Eduard Reyes (3-2) started for the Goldeyes and picked up the win, allowing one earned run on five hits over six innings. Reyes walked one and struck out five.

Austin Fairchild (1-3) started for the Railroaders and took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings. Fairchild walked one and struck out three.

Ken Frosch and Kyle Thomas each worked a scoreless inning in relief of Reyes.

Murphy finished 5-for-5 and has hit safely in 11 consecutive games. The five hits are a new career single-game high. Navarro has hit safely in 10 straight games.

The series concludes Thursday night at 7:06 p.m. Pete Perez (0-0, 2.89) makes his first start of the year. The Railroaders have not yet announced their starting pitcher. All the action can be heard locally on CJNU 93.7 FM and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca

The Goldeyes will continue to monitor the reopening of the Canada/US border and assess a potential return to Shaw Park in 2021.
